Fun Couples Lake Session in Idaho
I love shooting elopements, but I also love shooting adventure sessions. The rustic feel. The down to earth people I get to meet. The granola vibe if you will ;) All of it screams making memories, which is what I want the brand, Kim Captures Photography, to stand for.
I want adventure sessions to be more than spending two hours posing in a pretty scenery and sending the couple on their way. An adventure shoot to me means taking a couple outdoors and inviting them to do an activity that is important and significant to them in their relationship.
Meagan and Bryce are the perfect example of a down-for-adventure type couple who grow and thrive together through sharing the same love for nature and the same love for their favorite activities. In their case it’s mountain biking.
When they asked me to take their pictures I tried to figure out what we could do for their session that would be fun, minus making it strictly about the photos. “You guys should bring your mountain bikes,” I told them. “Sweet. We'll make a camping trip out of it,” they said. Coolest couple ever!
When the day came I met them at the breathtaking green saw tooth mountains in Idaho, right after they went on their first mountain-bike trail.
The sun shined on us, and mosquitos, flys and water bugs kept pestering us. But right when we started shooting they miraculously flew away. Hallelujah! The shoot didn’t feel posed or modeled. Instead, it felt natural, like nothing else mattered but these two being in their element.
At one point Bryce picked Meagan up and sat her on his bike handlebars while she gently kissed him and he held her.
Another time they rowed my kayak out onto the lake, while Meagan leaned against Bryce and both of them enjoyed the silence being with each other.
I not only captured the still intimate moments they shared, but also the playfulness of them jumping in the icy lake,
rowing and laughing in the kayak,
riding their bikes across a fallen tree and riding around the blue clear water,
and accidentally falling in.
After a days worth of exploring and playing in the water they put their bikes in the bike rack, helped me deflate my kayak and set off on another bike ride.
